Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is important and all. However think of if you added some great images or video clips to give your posts more, "pop"! Your content is excellent but with images and video clips, this site could definitely be one of the most beneficial in its niche. Awesome blog!

My one question is that I am a BS (electronics) and MS (telecomms) and want to switch into mgmt obviously a background in engineering may help but telecom is a vast field and I worked in UK in Utilities industry and was part of (not directly) a project but its been a year or so since I left it. My question is YES we know there are requisites for PMP or CAPM but that aside. I was wondering HOW CAN ONE GET a project manager or coordinator job without having a PMP or CAPM based on the qualifications I mentioned above. It's a question a lot of people asked me.
Regards

This is an example of a poor question, in my opinion. The PMBOK Guide (p209) says "Conversely, when a process is outside aceptable limits, the process should be adjusted. Seven consecutive points above or below the central line indicate a process that is out of control."

The best choice is clearly 'B.' "Work with the production team to bring the future
printing within the control limits." This is the closest response to the PMBOK definition.

Response A, Stop the printing of the books, does not even hint that the process will be adjusted.

Good Article.
There is no doubt that project management is a profession. The big problem is when non-project managers are put into PM roles. They are not professionals and they add to the misconception that project management is not a profession, when it really is.

Hi,

Thank you very much for this useful information.

I am planning to take CAPM and looking for some books besides PMBOK Guide 4th edition.
Most of them are preparation for PMP exam.
Am I in the right way if I am taking CAPM but reading books preparation for PMP exam?

Thank you very much.

Regards,
Daniel

Hi,
Very informative article.

But when i called up PMI they said I would need to have 1500 hours of project management experience and not just work experience. I am a software engineer with roles like Business Analyst and developer for 3 years.
I have no Management experience .
Can i still qualify for CAPM?
Please guide.

Thanks,
Kapil

<hr>
Hello Kapil,

If you do not have the requisite hours of documented experience, you can make up for it with 23 hours of PM instruction. HOWEVER, it is not PM experience that is required for the CAPM credential. It's only 1,500 hours of project experience. This can include both team lead / PM roles as well as simply project team roles.

As PMI words it: "1,500 hours of professional experience on a project team." They basically want to make sure that you have some exposure to project work (as opposed to operational or functional work), either through classes, on-the-job experience or both. (See page 7 of the attached CAPM Handbook.)

Good Luck,

Jerry Bucknoff, MBA, PMP

Hi Jerry,

Very helpful information. My question to you is, since the CAPM expires after 5 years and is not renewable, is it worth it? Can we still put this on our resumes to show to potential employers after 5 years? I'm worried about only being able to call myself a CAPM for a short amount of time, putting my time invested into it now into question.

Thanks Jerry.
